Well for one thing, it isn't satire. It took two current events that were wholly unrelated to one another and tried to apply a metaphor to it, and failed. Looking back at the cartoonists' previous work, it doesn't surprise me. Bunch of gay jokes referring to sheep. Very satirical. It is a major stretch to apply any relevance between the stimulus and the chimp mauling; one would argue why he would try it in the first place. I mean, if the joke was that the Democrats are acting like a bunch of apes on pushing the bill, it would still be offensive because the chimp was shot to death, and not funny or satirical in any way. The cartoonist was intentionally vague when referring to the chimp (odd considering that his usual cartoons always label who he is making fun of by name, which is a testament to his lack of talent), but he did say something like "if anything it would be about Pelosi, but it's not" so what the hell does that mean? does this guy even know who he's making fun of? or is the idea of using a dead chimpanzee shot by police too juicy to pass up? Listen, conservatives, there are plenty of ways to joke the Obama Administration and the Democrats in Congress, but this garbage is insipid and uninspired and not funny, and anyone who can't understand why people interpret it as racist is deluding themselves, or have no knowledge of the history of racism in America. If you have to show your target being shot to death, you are no satirist.

The editor should resign and people should boycott not only the paper but anyone who advertizes in it after today until he resigns. There is simply no excuse for the cartoon, racist or not. The woman who was attacked has had her eyes ripped out and has lost her nose and part of her jaw. How anyone can think something funny can be made of this situation and then not admit that there was a possibility of a racist joke is obviously not suited for the job.
