The 10 Funniest NY Post Sports Headlines

Now that the World Cup is finally over, we can look back and reflect on some of the most entertaining moments. For me, one of the funniest parts was two headlines that the New York Post put up during it.

Come to think of it, the NYP has had a pretty tremendous year as far as sports headlines go. So while I may not be a native New Yorker or have a lot of history with this particular publication, I took a look back at the best sports headlines from the NYP in the past year.

If you can find any that you feel should be on here or some classic ones from years past, put them in the comments for everyone else to enjoy. Otherwise, check them out.

No. 10: I'm A Cheetah

The New York Post had a field day with Tiger Woods. They picked on him mercilessly, even running 19 straight front pages with Tiger Woods on them.

This was the first one that made me think we were in for something special. The actual headline is nothing spectacular (although a decent pun on "Tiger"), but the doctored picture of Woods beaten up and Elin holding a golf club was classic.

No. 9: H-OLE!

This one is less funny, but still entertaining as hell.

The picture itself tells the story just fine (and one of the grossest pictures I've ever seen, by the way), but the New York post bangs it home with the very simple "H-OLE!"

No. 8: Texas Hold Up

I thought this one was pretty clever. After Gilbert Arenas got busted for pulling guns on his teammate in the locker room, it came out that the alleged standoff was a result of not paying a gambling debt.

The Post did a great job with the headline, even throwing in a nice picture of Arenas as a joker to sweeten the pot.

No. 7: Lock Up The Waitresses

Days before his dramatic press conference, a picture of Tiger jogging surfaced and the Post couldn't pass up another opportunity to make a Tiger joke.

They don't even need to explain what's going on, just the sight of Tiger out in public again is enough to know why all skanky waitresses should either run for cover or try to get their 15 minutes of fame.

No. 6: The Best Rex We Ever Had

I'm a sucker for sex puns, but I think the reason I enjoyed this particular one so much was because of the man they're talking about.

New York loves their Rex Ryan, but in no way shape or form could he ever be the best sexy anybody ever had. Ryan is so insanely confident that I have no doubt he believes it, but the picture of chunky Rex with that caption just made me laugh.

No. 5: USA Wins 1-1

The most accurate false headline ever.

How can you win a tie game? When you're a heavy dog and the one goal you get is a fluke that the goaltender botched horribly.

Saying that we won the tie is genius in and of itself, but the Bunker Hill reference just puts it over the top.

No. 4: Welcome To NY, Jackass

The New York Knicks wasted a good two seasons or so just on the hope that they might one day land LeBron James. When "The King" chose the Heat, let's just say New York didn't take it so well.

The morning after his Decision was fairly tame, but when LeBron came to the Big Apple a couple of days later for Carmelo Anthony's wedding, clearly New York was still not over it.

This headline says it all.

No. 3: Spank Him, Yanks

Where else other than New York City can you get a headline and a picture like this?

They are of course referencing Pedro's long-ago admission that the Yankees were his daddy. The picture is hilarious and I love how the sub-headline just straight up says that the Yankees are going to "whup" Pedro.

Then again, the New York Post was never really for subjective reporting.

No. 2: This Sport Is Stupid Anyway

My favorite part of the World Cup.

It's so simple and so perfect. It pretty much sums up 95 percent of American's reaction to the US losing to Ghana.

No need to split hairs. Let's call it like it is.

No. 1: Tiger Pulls Out!

You have to go with a Tiger headline at No. 1. Nobody else brought headline writers as much joy as this man has over the past year.

When Tiger announced his prolonged break from golf, the New York Post went with the most suggestive and hysterical headline I saw from anybody. Of course, not many other publications could even think of pulling this off.

If you are in NYC, the landlord tenant laws very much favor the tenant. Do some research and/or find a good lawyer.

There's nothing stopping them from posting your name, especially if what they are saying is true. However, if they are saying a bunch of nasty things, and you can prove that it has cost you money somehow, you can sue for character defamation.

Get ahold of the Tenant's Union and check with them. They know what the laws are to protect you in cases like this and can help you take legal action if needed.

I know in Michigan, in order to evict someone you need a judges order and have to prove why they are being evicted and then it gets posted on the county website here in Michigan.

Landlords in NYC have long had a list of "troublesome" tenants--those who sue landlords, don't pay rent, trash apartments, or whatever. This list has rarely escaped to be used by a tenant's lawyer in a defamation suit, but it has happened. A web posting has not yet, to my knowledge, been litigated, but if what is posted is true, you probably have little redress, unless it stays up beyond a reasonable time period. Of course, if he really is a slumlord, you can post his name on a list of slumlords! The Metropolitan Council on Housing is supposed to aid tenants, but in my experience is mainly into asking them for money. Still, your experience may vary, as they say in commercials, so you might want to check with them.

What did he write on the website? It really depends on what he wrote. I can only assume it had to do with the fact that you have been evicted, and he's trying to warn other Landlords of your....inability to work things out. If you were evicted, the court documents are public record. He can also post truthful facts about the case. What he may be liable for is libel, defamation of character. Again, depends what he wrote. Why don't you write a website about him, and report him for being a slum lord.

Well for one thing, it isn't satire. It took two current events that were wholly unrelated to one another and tried to apply a metaphor to it, and failed. Looking back at the cartoonists' previous work, it doesn't surprise me. Bunch of gay jokes referring to sheep. Very satirical. It is a major stretch to apply any relevance between the stimulus and the chimp mauling; one would argue why he would try it in the first place. I mean, if the joke was that the Democrats are acting like a bunch of apes on pushing the bill, it would still be offensive because the chimp was shot to death, and not funny or satirical in any way. The cartoonist was intentionally vague when referring to the chimp (odd considering that his usual cartoons always label who he is making fun of by name, which is a testament to his lack of talent), but he did say something like "if anything it would be about Pelosi, but it's not" so what the hell does that mean? does this guy even know who he's making fun of? or is the idea of using a dead chimpanzee shot by police too juicy to pass up? Listen, conservatives, there are plenty of ways to joke the Obama Administration and the Democrats in Congress, but this garbage is insipid and uninspired and not funny, and anyone who can't understand why people interpret it as racist is deluding themselves, or have no knowledge of the history of racism in America. If you have to show your target being shot to death, you are no satirist.

The editor should resign and people should boycott not only the paper but anyone who advertizes in it after today until he resigns. There is simply no excuse for the cartoon, racist or not. The woman who was attacked has had her eyes ripped out and has lost her nose and part of her jaw.
